Common questions
How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?
Open BlankFile → Settings (gear icon) → "Restore Purchase", or tap any Pro feature and use "Restore purchase" at the bottom of the paywall screen. Your purchase is linked to your Apple ID and restores instantly for free.
Does BlankFile modify my original photos?
Never. BlankFile always saves a new copy of your photo with the changes applied. Your original is untouched. You can choose to delete the original after saving the copy, but that's always your choice.
My photo is stored in iCloud — can I still edit it?
Yes. BlankFile will download the full-resolution photo from iCloud before editing. You'll see a loading indicator while this happens. Make sure you're on Wi-Fi for large photos.
Why can't I see the GPS location on some photos?
Not all photos contain GPS data. If you had location access disabled on your camera app when the photo was taken, no GPS data was recorded. BlankFile can only show or remove data that exists in the file.
Is my data safe? Does BlankFile upload my photos?
Your photos never leave your device. All processing is done on-device. We have no servers and collect no data. See our

Does BlankFile support RAW files?
BlankFile edits JPEG, HEIC, PNG and TIFF. RAW files (DNG, CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, RAF…) can be opened to view all their metadata; editing RAW is on our roadmap. In a batch, RAW files are skipped and clearly marked.
Will my Live Photos and Portrait photos stay intact?
Yes. BlankFile rewrites only the metadata, never the image itself — Portrait depth, HDR and the Live Photo video are kept in the saved copy. The one exception is "Strip All": it removes everything, including the Live Photo video, because that video carries its own metadata.
What does "Strip All" remove — and why is the copy dated today?
Strip All removes location, camera and lens, capture dates, iOS version, author and copyright, and the face regions your iPhone detected. The copy is dated at the moment you stripped it: that date reveals nothing about when or where the photo was taken. BlankFile re-checks every saved copy — if something can't be removed, it tells you and saves nothing. One side effect: a stripped Portrait photo is no longer shown as "Portrait" in the Photos app, because the markers Photos relies on are removed with everything else. Regular edits keep the Portrait effect.
Why does iOS ask for full photo access when I pick an album or delete an original?
Saving a copy only needs "Add Photos Only" access. Adding it to an album or deleting the original requires full access, so iOS asks at that moment. You can decline: the copy is still saved to your library.
